I believe that is a Salvation Army Family Center on LaBranch and McGowan. The person was right, that is by far the best place to try. Good luck!

Call Star of Hope on McGowen and LaBranch and hopefully i pray this would be a start.. Catholic Charities on Lyons Ave. also helps but i don't have much information on them.
