You keep your plates for your new vehicle, you have at least 30 days, or take them in to DMV if you won't be using them. You can call DMV or check their website for more details.

Go to DMVNV.COM for info. You will want to surrender your plate prior to cancelling that insurance on that car to avoid being penalized for lapse of insurance on that car. If you surrender that plate and you wish to use that plate on another vehicle registered in your name, you will just surrender the plate number(which you can also do online), keep that plate(especially if it's a personalized plate), to put it on your new vehicle.

Nevada requires you to keep your plates and either use them on another vehicle or turnthem in to the DMV. Depending on the type oflicense plate, you may have either 30 days or 60 days to use the plates on another vehicleor turn them in
