The Forest Preserve's emphasis is on taking out invasive alien species, so thistles and burdocks, which are natives, are only cut back enough to keep the paths clear.
Well right now they have the Summer weeds still there and the Beginning of fall they clear most of the brush out for winter
For the most part, they clear about 3-5 feet from the walking path. The rest is left as is.
