I would say no. If the waves did get that high(very rare), they usually keep people out of the water.
When I was there the past two weeks the waves weren't very big.

What else is there to do around the area after the beach? Or good eats?
Can you bring your own beach umbrellas and chairs? If not can ypu rent some there and if so how much?
