It was moved in 1968, to be a tourist attraction. At the time, Lake Havasu City was being developed as a planned community. Other than the Bridge, the best attraction in Lake Havasu City is the Lake and access to the Colorado River.

London bridge was falling down it couldn't handle traffic the way it needed to over the Thames River in London so it was deconstructed and rebuilt only the exterior of the bridge is original he sold the inside the bridge was made stronger the people were safe everyone was happy the hobbits went back to their house to brush the fur on their feet

Actually I heard about the bridge for the first time in the summer of 1978 during a visit to London. I took a tour at the tower of London and the story told by the tour guide was that a rich American bought London Bridge thinking it was Tower Bridge. The British seemed very proud of having gotten over on an American. Tower bridge is much more impressive.... I am not sure how true that story is, but I did remember it 32 1/2 years later like it was told to me a few weeks ago, lol....

As I understand the developer wanted to promote the new development. The London bridge was sinking in the mud and was going to have to be destroyed. He perched it numbered all the blocks and had it shipped to Arizona period putting this together had to be like putting a huge giant puzzle together. Fantastic job and well worth the visit anytime you're in the area

I beleive it was because there was a technical issue with the bridge itself and there being wasp nests.

There was this powerful 🌪️ that went through London back in the late 60's whipped it up into the air and transported to Arizona and magically put in back together. I think it was one of those traveling storms from the Land of OZ.
