Oceanfront rooms face the ocean. Your back window(s) are parallel to the shore. Ocean view rooms are on the street side of the building. They have balconies that are quite strategically placed, so that if you are standing on the balcony, and hold your head just right, and stick out your tongue, and squint a bit, you'll say, "Oh yeah. There's the ocean." We stayed in an ocean view room and experienced it first hand. It isn't the worst thing in the world, especially if you aren't planning to spend a lot of time in your room; but of you are really looking forward to opening your curtains and seeing the ocean, you may want Oceanfront.
One you get a side view
We had a room on the 14th floor on the street side facing south it was an ocean view room. The balcony gave us an excellent view of the water even with the building next door. We didn't have to squint or sticker head out over the balcony and that was from the Front Street side of the building. We were on the South Side so there was no immediate building adjacent to us so perhaps the person that was talking about having to lean out was on the North side where there might have been a building. I didn't notice
We had an ocean view room that was on the front corner of the building and it was perfect! We could see the ocean without being a contortionist and we had a great city view as well. At first I was worried that our ocean view wouldn't be as nice as ocean front but was relieved and now prefer ocean view when at Ocean 22.
