It could be a variety of different problems, anywhere from the device itself to the sim card. If you are not too far away from a 'real'verizon store, I'd recommend going in to see a representative in person over calling customer service. But make sure it's actually a Verizon location instead of a 3rd party Verizon satellite store, and also have the phone and 50.00 card with you to make it easier

Call customer service. Sometimes you aren't signed up for the correct plan and customer service needs to switch plans. If you're on the right plan and paid the right amount, they may need to reset your phone to allow data access.
