They can vary pretty significantly. Puppies/kittens can be pretty expensive ($150-$350+), while older animals (think 6+ years) are generally pretty cheap ($25-$50). The deal is that the shelter spends a LOT of money on care and feeding of the animals, and they're able to recoup those costs by charging a fair bit for puppies and kittens. Critters (guinea pigs, hamsters, bunnies, etc.) are generally pretty cheap (~$25).
