Register the vehicle at the DMV, which will cost about $100. You will also have to pay sales tax on whatever you paid for the vehicle, which is like 7% of the purchase price. When you register the vehicle, you will also have to pay about $100 for your license plates. Once that's done, they will give you temporary plates at the DMV which are good for 90 days. Your permanent plates should arrive in the mail in 4-6 weeks.
Thank you for your responses. I don't live in the US and will be there visiting for 18 days. I am buying a vehicle to use while I'm there and thereafter I will ship the vehicle to my home country.
