No it's very clean
The land around the water is fairly clean. The water itself is ONLY safe in late fall and early spring. NO ONE should be letting dogs in the lake in the summer due to the dangerous algae bloom. Not only will the dog smell terrible, but almost every dog who swims in it ends up with a skin condition or infection of some kind. Any nearby vet will verify this.
I was there last week and it was very clean, I think it's mostly when the ducks are micrating the algae goes a little crazy, and makes it very ugly and wouldn't let my dog in,
