No, you are not supposed to do that. They have a consession stand for that and expect -even depend on- patrons to make purchases. Nothing keeps you from sneaking in your own -but it is dishonorable behavior to sneak in your own- if you get caught, the theater has every right to banish you from the theater. Just do the right thing and leave your stuff at home and support your theater by buying their products, or watch the movie snackless.
believe it or not most movie outlets show movies for free or just break even sometimes even lose money so they depend on overpriced snacks to make $$$

It's not dishonorable to sneak in some snacks. No one needs to be judged or lectured because they don't want to buy overpriced candy.
You can however they sometimes search your belongings. Otherwise put your goodies in your pockets of pants or shorts or a jacket or if you bring in a small blanket.
