It depends. When it comes to teams like the Cubs, Dodgers or Indians, then yes, they're very likely to sell out, and fairly quickly at that. Those teams, as well as maybe the White Sox, have huge followings here during Spring Training because of the large number of snowbirds and the fact that L.A. is only a short flight from the Valley. Plus, the Giants have a long, storied rivalry with the Dodgers going back to their New York days. Think Yankees-Red Sox. Teams put their Spring Training tickets on sale in December or early January. So games against teams like the four I mentioned may already be gone by Super Bowl Sunday. My advice is to start checking team websites in early December to see when their Spring Training tickets go on sale. The dates vary from team to team. Also, if you plan to go to see one of those teams, allow yourself a couple of hours of drive time. Traffic conditions can be as big of a nightmare as rush hour.

I wouldn't risk it against the Cubs's fervent snow bird fans if that's the game you really want to attend. My wife wrote a book called The Happy Traveler. Research would say spend now to lock it down. Then a) you've already paid so you don't have that bummer then, b) you are happier when you get to anticipate, and c) all kinds of research says spend on experiences, not things. So splurge on this and skip the souvenirs or too much ballpark food. Hope this is helpful!

Not sure, but my impression is that it's not very often.

In addition to the above comments, I suggest you go early to find parking close up. The parking structure fills up early forcing many to park in the nearby neighborhoods. On a sellout day that could be anywhere from .5 -1.5 mile walk.

Buy early indeed. It tends to be (along with the Cubs) the most expensive stadium and they have limited grass seating if you like that. So buying early will also save you money.

I am planning on going to the first home game against the cubs but have an infant so we are going to sit on the grass. Just wondering if I should risk buying tickets the day off to save on the extra online fees or are the cubs a team that they will sell out against?

Harry Uhles | Oct 27, 2018

We had to get lawn seats because the regular seats were sold out just depends what game you go to
