I recently received a severance package from my employer. My severance package includes income over the next 18 mos. Why are they still taking the CSDI payment out when I'm no longer employed and have retired?

Severance pay is subject to State Income Tax (CA SIT), but is not subject to Disability Insurance (CA SDI). They should not be witholding CA SDI.

They are the government and want every penny possible from you.Also some people retire then re-enter job market so I assume it's a just in case you change your mind tax.
