We've had plenty of kids as young as 3 and some kids in their 100's love the Runaway! There are a couple sections where the helixes get about 20 feet above the ground, but you are buckled in securely and a child that is 5 years old would have to ride with a parent, grandparent or older sibling anyway so there shoudn't be any problems.

Really depends on how daring the kid is. If they don't like kiddie coasters then probably not a good idea. If they like things like that then ya it should be fun!
