Illinois has one of the most restrictive MMJ programs in the country. You must have a qualifying medical condition, or have been prescribed opioids, and you'll need a doctor to sign off on using cannabis as medicine. Illinois recreational cannabis sales begin Jan. 1, 2020. However, if you have a qualifying condition, obtaining a medical card may be a better option, as the tax is lower and under the new laws, sales to medical patients are prioritized over recreational.
