The pit is the first 7 rows in front of the stage. If its a reserved seating pit, it will have a triple letter row and seat number. Most pits are general admission and standing room only.
The Pavilion aka the pit seating is assigned to your ticket with a number. We've always prefer the lawn because you can sit wherever you want since it's first come first serve.
Pavilion seats are under the roof and you sit in an assigned seat which has a number. Lawn seating is when you sit on the grassy areas wherever you can find an open place.
The pit is called pavilion when purchasing tickets
