We’re trying to decide whether to do shuttle or bike ride. We want to get to trails as early as possible. Our concerns are: Is the bike ride strenuous? Can we get bikes early enough to ride before sunrise? Are the bikes safe while we hike?

If you can, get electric bikes. The shuttle system is barely functioning due to covid-19. If you have kids that won't be able to keep up, get an electric bike with an extra seat on the back. Definitely the best way to see the canyon.

The bike ride from Zion Cycles up to the end of the canyon road and back is about 20 miles. It has minimal elevation gain so it rides like a flat road. There could be some gusts in the canyon which are slightly annoying. But it is certainly one of my favorite rides I've done. Many people leave their bikes locked to the wooden fences while they are out on the trails. I did the same a few days ago. If you are trying to get to the trails early, I would recommend renting bikes the day before so you don't have to wait for the shop to open in the morning. Hope this is helpful!
