Bought a kitchen table that the top is chipping for second time in less than 2 years want to paint it but don't know what top is made of wood? plastic? any answers would be appreciated

The matriel used mainly in there tables is glued sawdust, get you some caulking and dab in the holes, let dry, sand it smooth and even then clear coat it and paint.

I brought reclining chairs that had the foot padding area sliced open the shipping cost was too much to send it back so I had to spend my own money and get it repaired
