I have some old railroad spikes and a 3 lb sledgehammer. Tent up, chairs out, beer in hand. Life's good at BPKFL...
Also consider using large rocks or sand bags as hold downs.
Congratulations
When we were there we use the large tent spikes that you can buy at Walmart most of the time they have an orange cap on the top and we used to rubber mallet we had a big storm blow through when we were there and it was incredibly violent so I also suggest that you guys tie your rainfly off all as well. The storm was so violent that it was trying to push the top of our tent down and we have a very strong North Face tent some time off the rain fly and even the pole structure the tent if possible can really help. It did take some effort to get the steaks in and out if you run into real problems you can just use the water from the spigots to help you loosen the soil around the spikes.
All of these answers here are good ones. It can get windy on the water, so we recommend staking down everything with sturdy stakes hammered into the hard ground under any sand or gravel that may be present.
Why not. The area was solid before Irma, I'd be prepared for it all.
Make sure you bring the stakes! Gets pretty windy on the waterfront sites at times.
Its a mix, but we didnt have any trouble
They are mixed sand and gravel. I had some difficulty getting staked up, but it was possible.
