I have appt next week. Am wondering if I am wasting my time & money. Have chronic pain, RA & OA & have taken meds to manage it for 20+ yrs. Not willing to have spinal surgery, etc. Wondering what to expect.

I just recently saw one of the doctors at Capital Pain for the first time. I had been a patient of pain management for 30 years until they merged with capital pain. I sad not impressed. The doctor actually got up and walked out of the exam room in the middle of my appointment and left me with the PA. She was rude, didn't ask me anything about my history and the first thing she told me was I needed some surgery. She hadn't even asked me one question at that time. As I was leaving the office, a patients husband was sitting in the waiting room, searching his phone for another doctor for his wife. He said every person that walked out of the office was very angry at the doctors.

They never told me I was now Out of Network. They will also tell you rhetorical statements “It’s our policy”. They also will force you to have a current imaging.

Rfer by PCP bc my pain levels were barely allowing me out of bed & I limped.rd w/migraines @ 9 yrs old, sciatica in both legs, multiple herniated discs in my neck & lower bk, Sogren's, Chronic Pain,Chronic Fatigue,Reynaud's & freq fibromyalgia flares. Most Dr refuse to treat fibro patients& PCPs refer out.I've seen all the physicians at CPI& was trted by Dr Sharma for 2+ yrs.Pain's well managed & meds use needed min.Sharma was esp exceptional w/high levels of empathy& expertise. After some int'l changes, office staff, nurses have been great too; my biggest problem has been w/PA's. Post surgery 1 accused me of a failed UA not noting CPI had actually prescribed my post surgical ameds.Another time I attempted to discuss a new concern w/ PA Daphne & she very condescendingly told me to exercise more.Dr Desai is good, Dr Schokett exceptional, Dr Asha absurd. Post surgery she accused me of IV drug use bc I had bruises from the surgery IV.Upsetting but most of staff understands pain mgmt & kind.

It's a great place, I started there in 2012 or 2013 due to multiple injuries as well as wrecks I've been involved with. They 1 got me through it, 2 they helped me lower dosage to the point I'm no longer on opiates. Would I recommend them? Of course hands down.

I would give them a try. I've been very pleased with Dr. Schocket, his PA's and all of the staff. It's difficult for me to imagine how some of the patients say that they were so mistreated at CPI. And I have not been an easy case, but they continue to take care of my issues. Dr. Schocket is brilliant, in my opinion.
