My Doberman is the smaller American size, at exactly the AKC standard for the breed. At 10 yrs old, she has never weighed more than around 75 lbs. The German variety can be up to 150 lbs or more. A good judge of a dog's adult size is, of course, to look at the parents. He is likely to be similar to his sire in adult weight. That being said, if I simply allowed mine to eat to her heart's content, she'd be 100 lbs in no time, as she will do anything for food. I keep her to a cup of her kibble morning and night, and frequent treats throughout the day, as she is extremely food motivated. I would guess that your baby will be close to a carbon copy of Dad by the time he's 2 yrs old. Just make sure that you can always see a slight outline of the ribs, to be sure he isn't getting fat...not protruding, and not totally hidden by fat. And our breed of choice needs plenty of exercise!
I have had 4 dobermans, all females. I kept 3 of them for their entire lives (the 4th was lost in a divorce). All of them were 62 pounds +/- a pound or two, two of them were 26" at the shoulder, and one was 26-3/4". I used a plastic LIQUID measuring cup and filled it to the top and leveled. They all remained at a nice weight
