I can see why some people here said they brought their own gear . The life jackets are really really dirty :( . Our canoe was in good condition and we had a nice little trip on the canal , there were lots of ducks and turtles . They do however need to work on their gear , they guy who helped us out with the rental wasn’t that friendly either . Maybe it was the hot weather .

We brought our own gear and rented another. Friendly staff, quick check in. Reserve early in week. Gear is not torn, but definitely used by many . Lots of parking space, nice time on the canal. Fitzwater pub right there, excellent food after a day on the water.

I went here the morning of 10/15/21 as I was in town visiting family. I grew up in the area and haven't been back in many years. I had planned on kayaking the Schuylkill once I realized there was a rental outfit nearby. I checked both the website and Google Maps for pricing and hours. Upon arrival, I pulled into the gravel parking lot and the food side of the business was getting ready for the day. I was glared at by an old man walking his dog along the river as I parked before he headed back to his house across the street. When I got to the rental counter outside on the other side of the building I was told they weren't renting by a guy that wasn't interested in conversation. He said something about storm damage from Hurrican Ida. I don't know if he meant they were unable to rent because of Ida or if you couldn't get onto the river beyond the portage due to storm damage. I walked off and drove 30 minutes back home generally irritated at the general lack of friendliness overall. Clearly this isn't the SE PA I grew up knowing in the 80's and 90's. Do yourself a favor, save yourself a wasted drive and call them before showing up to rent as it's not posted anywhere on their website or Google page that they aren't renting.
