That's the great mystery of Wal-Mart. It's been that way for so long that I might wonder what store I was in if it were any different. Just before Christmas, a few extra seem to open including the garden center and jewelry counter. But it's also more crowded so it works out about the same. Years ago, people would complain and occasionally someone would walk out and leave what they'd shopped for. If I wasn't in a hurry (never) and had my kids with me, I'd try to look at it as a field trip to a place where there was a good chance they might get to see someone write a check. History comes alive when you can put a visual with it... I think most people held onto hope that it would change but then they showed everyone who was driving that big warehouse-ship with the birds in the ceiling. They set up self check-out registers, as if to say 'do it your d--- self, and we're still gonna leave some closed, and you'd better have cash AND card on you because you'll never figure us out!
Walmart has been this way for over 30 years....believe it or not. The only time more lanes are open is holiday season.
The self checkout has 1 employee for all of them.
They want you to venture out to self checkout lanes.....
