You can apply for an expedited passport... you just need to show proof of travel.

When you show up at the passport office make sure you have all the documents needed and paperwork filled out according to the instructions on the U.S. passport agencies website for expedited passport service. You'll also need to pay an additional fee. All instructions are on the website.
