Why not simply tell them and ask for a replacement of something else or equal value? Most locally owned businesses need good word of mouth - Depending on their answer shows the caliber of the business ......
Next time, ask them before you get your order. As a former bakery clerk, I had my share of that being the cause.
They should make less of things if anything is sitting there long enough to get stale. The last few recent times I've been everything was perfect so this surprises me ...alot...
