The forts are the main attraction. The Rockaway Artists Alliance has history to be read. If you have a good camera, you can brighten the inner battery locations in post. I went in the cool of the spring so I covered up well. I bring this up because I had to go through high grass to get to some areas and this place does have ticks. Great history, here. Ticks are plentiful.

It's a decommissioned military artillery site. Not very touristy unless you are really into that kind of thing. It is very secluded and at times can be pretty sketchy and dangerous.
It's the best beach in the city by far if you're looking for a place away from the crowds. It is hard to get to without a bike, though.
