Just spent four days at the Whitley. Club level is the same great experience - best breakfast buffet in town as well as snacks all day and nightcaps. Club staff left us champaigne in our suite and made us a cake to celebrate our 20th anniversary. The fireplace was removed before the rebranding, but was replaced with a vibrant bar area. Rumor is that a new fireplace is planned. We asked about the upcoming renovation and were assured that the Club will remain with the new design. Staff has been carried over and saw many familiar faces. Looking forward to seeing the decor after the renovation.
It’s really sad. Lots of great family memories over the past 30+ years. The grand fireplace, the elegant English decor, the impeccable service... all gone with the winds of change. But change for it’s own sake is never successful. (Look at the Russian Revolution, or the Cloister.) We will miss the beautiful English antiques, the movies over the swimming pool at night, the choochoo train from the castle in Germany that was displayed every holiday season, the “Welcome Back” wine or chocolates or strawberries. I knew it was the beginning of the end when they installed the world’s ugliest gold and purple carpet, and added purple crystals to the crystal chandeliers. R.I.P., lovely Ritz.
Michael Rappaport, how is it different now? I loved it like it was!!
Yes. I'm here now.
