It appears they did their best to hide it from everyone..not a single sign advertising it or road sign directing people in..if you don't know specifically where it is it's almost impossible to find
They didn't get permission to construct it in Manhattan or nearby places. This place was chosen because the WTC and nearby buildings can be seen from here.
I as well am not sure why this site was chosen . It baffles me as to the placement of this beautiful Monument. And yes it is true it is very hard to fine. No signs ,no easy access, no reference to location or that it's even there. Their is a porta potty for going to the bathroom if you need to because believe me it's out in the middle of nowhere and if you need to go to the bathroom you have to drive back like 2 miles to find something so porta potty it is, it's just a shame that this beautiful Monument isn't in lower Manhattan with the rest of the commemorations of the 9/11 tragedy.just saying . It came from the Russian People and their president Vladimir Putin. So maybe someone in politics did want the US people to know that they are in solidarity with us against the terrorists
No one wanted it.
I was just there a few weeks ago n I made it my business to visit from NE-PA, past the Poconos, just to see this monument after reading about it. I used waze gps n never had a bit of trouble getting there. With every turn getting through Jersey City, all the way to the monument, my brain kept asking, why NJ? When we got there we were more confused as to why there, next to a cruise ship port? I still don't get it. U see the Statue of Liberty n sky line of NY from there because you're on the water. I then figured, it's a memorial also for the Jersey folk who died in NY also n all Americans. It's breath taking to see in person. Go if you can.
Per Snopes: "Bayonne was a fitting location; the city was an arrival point for many New York City evacuees on 9/11, a staging area for rescuers, and offered a direct view of the Statue of Liberty and the former World Trade Center towers."
