I have owned a couple of Betta fish...and because they are so aggressive, I only had one at a time. I have read that they will be ok with ghost shrimp and neon and amber tetras...they seem to do well on their own...give them a big enough tank and an interesting environment. It's definitely worth doing research on...they are relatively easy to care for, but, like any pet, it is important to know the best food for them, temperature, signs of sickness, and so on...
I would love to answer but it wasn't my specialty, I was in grooming
