Great for veggies, coffee and items in glass (yogurt, oils, vitamins) but not good for dry bulk goods.

Yes especially since they don't use plastic bags, they let you bring your own reusable bag or use some extra cardboard boxes they don't need

We bring our own grocery bags. You can recycle the packaging. I haven't come across anything that can't be recycled or composted. They don't even have grocery bags, other than for produce. However, you can opt not to use their plastic veggie bags. I don't think you can get more environmentally friendly than Natural Grocers.
