I drove all the way from Miami Beach, FL. so I think you can drive pretty far with one
I took the shuttle bus to the lighthouse.
Its about a quarter mile well paved walk to the lighthouse
You can park right before the start of the hike.
If your question is how close to the shore than I believe the answer is not close enough. We went down the main road about 75% of the way north and did not find a beach that was viewable from the parking area. Perhapse at the end or at the light house though??
Two weeks ago, they had a shuttle bus leaving from Drakes Beach taking people out to the Lighthouse. They are Marin Airporter buses and they can accomodate the handicapped.
I've seen new restrooms and limited handicap parking closer to the lighthouse.
For the lighthouse there's a little handicapped parking close to the lighthouse. For other hikes, I've never seen parking problems close to trailheads.
