Dawn go to the office
I originally called the number from the SSA website to see if I qualified and after I gave them my personal info they were able to tell me if I was eligible and what Id receive if I were approved. Since I hadnt worked in a couple of years I didnt qualify for disablity. The rep then took my information and applied it to a SSI aapplication. There was a LONG wait the first time I called. The second and every call since, I chose to use their call back service which is offered at the begining of the call. Its never been more than a 15min wait until they called me back. My SSI application was denied because I didnt submit the additional documents they requested by a certain date because I was hospitalized at the time. Hoping it would expedite the appeal process I went into the Des Moines SSA office once I was well enough to do so but I wish I hadnt. The wait time us excruciatingly long, my documents have gone missing and the reps are burried in work....so stick with the 800 #. Good Luck
That would require you to swing by and speak to a rep about your specific situation
