I’m buying a ticket for my friend who’s 17 will she be able to get past checking in without having to show her identification? And if she does have to show it would a school ID and a birth certificate work?

You can accompany her up to the security checkpoint. We went through with our daughters. (12 and 17) without issue. If your friend has an ID, taking it will only help her out.
