I understand the ship was decommissioned in 1947 , but is the ship in a state where it can be "started up" again , or has it sat too long ? Please excuse my not knowing much about these grand ships

Yes, it is possible to reactivate decommissioned battleships. However, they can only be the Iowa class battleships of the US as they're the only ones that are capable of being reactivated to decent modern levels. Depending on how well they've been maintained as museum ships, it'd take may be 2 to 3 years...

I believe it is set up for one place to view. I do not think it would be easy to take it out again.
