You may not be talking about this USS North Carolina. There were a few ships with the name throughout history. Currently there is a submarine with the name. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_North_Carolina_(ACR-12)
Yeah. You are thinking of the battlecruiser. The first ship to launch a plane
Here's to it 😁 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_North_Carolina_(ACR-12)
He's right it didn't serve in World war 1but it did serve in world War II
Probably the USS South Carolina. Commissioned in 1910 bud.
I googled USS North Carolina WWI, and found info on the earlier ship with a photo.
I'm not sure. You could call and ask about the list. You could also ask when the ship was in service.
I have heard the story of your uncle being in the shower on that fateful day. This was during one of my Hidden Battleship tours (highly recommend it). It is sad that he passed without being able to be a part of the righting the torpedo hit. The amazing part is how close everyone came to losing their lives and their home on the ocean. If not for one man closing those magazine doors, this could have been a horrific story. To have his niece recount, remember, and pass along to us that his legacy is still alive. Well, I appreciate your time spent just letting us know. That is what makes this ship a true living memorial. Thank you and God bless.
We honor Brave Soldiers like your Uncle Leonard. May God keep and bless his soul, American Patriots hold your uncle with great honor and respect
This ship was not launched until 1940.
The first world war ended in 1918. The USS North Carolina was not launched until 1940.
