I have sat in my car several times crossing with the Port Jeff/ Bridgeport Ferry.
This past weekend leaving from both ports we were told to exit our vehicle and wait in designated areas. However two weeks earlier the crew never asked us to exit and we heard no such announcement. Staying in your vehicle can be a bit uncomfortable as car alarms are continuously going off due to movement of the ferry.
Drivers and passengers can stay in the car. You buy all tickets ahead of time so you no longer need to check in. Been that way for a few years. You may have to stay in your car depending where they tell you to park. They don't take into consideration drivers needing to get out and will jam you in, inches from the wall or mechanical parts.
You can stay in your car but must pay on upper deck unless you've pre paid with reservation.
You need to check in and wait in a separate area.
Passengers can choose to stay in there vehicles or go topside to the indoor cabin or outside on the top deck. The top deck is weather premitting. Only on the Orient Point ferry do they not allow you to sit in your vehicle
Separate area
There's a separate area
I believe passengers are not allowed to remain in their vehicles while crossing. There is a seating area inside the vessel with a snack bar and a lounge. There is also outdoor upper deck seating for those warmer months.
