Service Electric Cable TV-NJ - All questions

Address: 320 S Sparta Ave, Sparta Township, NJ 07871, USA

Anita Duffy | Oct 16, 2018

I have tried several times to ask Verizon why they cannot provide service in our area. They are also a lot less expensive.

Debbie Brown | Oct 16, 2018

YES! I will sign a petition to get rid of CenturyLink and Service Electric! It's not fair that everyone else gets a choice of providers and we are stuck with these sub-standard companies!! It's been going on for too long. The Mayor of this town (Newton) and I am sure of other towns in Sussex County, are all a part of this "no other choice syndrome." I also want Verizon or something other than what we have. Can you start an online petition and get it to the news or governing agencies? Let's do it! Many people want it!!

Bill Howell | Oct 16, 2018

service electric has been providing inadequate service for many years. Broadband is just as bad if not worse than century link. Our congressman Gottheimer has recently begun investigating why Sussex county in reality has the worst average internet service in all of NJ. Call or write his office, this election year, they will listen.

This is what needs to be done: I've been researching this for a few months now and I'm on the attack now. This reign of bullshi- will end with these losers and end soon. First - write emails every day to Senator Menedez and complain about the monopolization of this company like I have and ask why it is this way! https://www.menendez.senate.gov/contact SEND AN EMAIL ONCE PER DAY AND DON'T STOP UNTIL A CHANGE IS MADE!!! Second: Get yourself a digital antenna (costs less than $50 for a really good HDTV antenna) and DIY it or have a local handyman install it for you. You'll get about 40-50 channels which is something. Picture quality is excellent. Continue to use your cell phone provider as a method of accessing the internet. I'd rather pay $20-$50 per month to Verizon/ATT/Srpint than to give it to this scumbag company. EVERYONE NEEDS TO CHINE IN HERE! PLEASE CONTRIBUTE AND SEND THOSE EMAILS TO YOUR LOCAL GOV'T AGENTS!

Direct TV has bundles starting at $35/month - and are incliding a FREE Aplle TV 4K with purchase ( you just have to pay for 3 months up front) - you can stream Direct TV through Apple TV and they have LIVE channels! I just purchased and am Canx my Cable through SE as soon as my second Apple TV shows for my room. I’m now paying 126 through SE a month which inclides the DVR etc. I’ll be saving $90 a month as soon as I canx. I can’t wait.... these cable conpanies are a RIP OFF!!

david puente | Oct 16, 2018

just give it 2 more years. with 5G you will be able to get streaming services through your wireless company that will allow you to watch tv without cable at all. Its closer than you think to becoming a reality

Gail DuNaier | Oct 16, 2018

it is a township issue that needs to be addressed at town council meetings and also at the county freeholder meetings, that is where the company contracts are established

Christine Buckingham | Oct 16, 2018

Service Electric is the best there is in our rural area. I spoke with someone in Verizon Corporate and they told me it was not profitable enough to rewire our area. Everything boils down to profits now, especially with the huge monopolives such as Verizon. I had them for years prior in another county - they are Not less expensive honestly. Sadly the end of net nuetrality has opened the door to these companoes to raise our rates now even higher. Good luck.

We need OPTIMUM, not Verizon. When I lived on Lake Kitatinny (Sandyston) for over 4 years, I was stuck with Service Electric, even though the rest of Sandyston and even Branchville (I had a Branchville zip code) had Optimum! It was infuriating! Verizon is just as bad, very expensive for poor service. Optimum is in PARTS of Sussex County, but not others. Why? CORRUPTION at the political level. PRIVATELY OWNED Service Electric continues to be rip-off 6 years later and what are we doing about it? Complaining on internet threads! We need ACTION -- not words! I cancelled my SE cable service 3 months in, but still have to deal with horrendously unreliable internet service. They are all CONTRACTORS that work there -- they don't care. We need to attend our Town Council meetings, CALL OUR SENATORS and FREEHOLDERS as recommended below, and fight for our right to FAST and AFFORDABLE INTERNET SERVICE! EACH OF US MUST DO SOMETHING!!

Verizon is no better than Service Electric. At least in our part of Byram. The speeds are infuriatingly slow. All too frequent disruptions of service. One of Verizon's own technicians told me that the equipment "box" in our area was so ineptly wired that he couldnt begin to fix it. My nephew has tried both ServElec and Verizon and now uses Service Electric internet and a "magic jack" for VoIP phone service. He works at home and says the service is ok. 5G isnt going to help if you live on a road with no cell service.

Dimitrios Argyros | Oct 16, 2018

This is a rip off and in Wantage is a dying town with no descent internet speeds, stores closing down, and no other company is willing to expand infrastructure to offer service, time to leave

M Szmyt (HMS) | Oct 15, 2020

Try planet network. They have great speed and are expanding in Sparta etc.

I see that most of these comments are pretty old but I thought I'd chime in here and say I would sign the petition as well. I currently use Service Electric for broadband only and use the Fire Stick as my TV source. I'm fine with it but now my wife's grandparents moved in with us and their having a hard time understanding how the Fire Stick works. I would like to get "regular" TV service just for them but its too expensive

Samuel Bryant Jr. | Oct 16, 2019

Well. We got the talking done. What's the plan of action? Move to another town?

Ray A | Oct 16, 2018

Omg I wish we Can do that .. this Internet service is Killing me .. I tried century link and Hughes Net the worse haven't tried this one yet but I'm sure it's as bad ..

Matthew Russell | Oct 15, 2021

Verizon won't run FiOS anymore. They are waiting to push 5G to all rural areas. Give it time and they will setup 5G all over the area. I work in IT and have spoken to the Verizontechs who work on my clients offices. You have to wait but once 5G is pushed out you will have a second option.

Isn't it a monopoly when there's only one cable provider available ??? Please someone educate me on this ....

S C | Oct 16, 2019

FubuTV I just signed up yesterday. You get a 7 day free trial. I pay $55.00 for the standard package which includes all the channels I had with SE Cable TV that I was paying double for. I just kept my internet service with SE Cable and ditched their cable tv package. I am saving $80 a month doing it this way. If you have a Samsung Smart TV you don't need a Roku box to download the app. The Fubu app is available on all Samsung TVs 2015-2019. There is also Sling TV but I believe you need to purchase their box. Cable TV prices are absurd. It is sad to say I cannot afford it anymore.

Drew Bartosch | Oct 16, 2019

Century link does not have equal ichaccess in there central office .which allows other phone co. to piggyback on their cable

sherylsden Animal Rescue | Oct 16, 2019

Ugh its so frustrating.

Carl Hatke | Oct 16, 2018

Where do I sign, and my parent are up here too, they will sign as well

A Google User | Oct 16, 2018

Please dont get caught getting Century Link Big Mistake Actually will not geolocate you if you do want to gamble online!! I was on the phone with the techs in the Phillipines for hours and may times . They dont have a clue they just tell you your wi fi is working. Where in newton can i get a good provider that geolocates?? Also tried Hughs Net SLOW!!!!!!!!!!

Monica Farmar | Oct 16, 2018

Worst service I have EVER experienced!! Cannot beg them to get an appointment to even install internet!!

bri Lauridsen | Oct 16, 2018

Tell the mayor of byram

Guy Tarsitano | Oct 16, 2018

Contact your Assembymen and Congessmen. If you recall Bell Tel had a monopoly on telephone service until the government deregulated them and opened competition. Now we have a choice. The same needs to happen with the cable industry. BTW there IS a no competition agreement between cable providers.

Ed Skowronski | Oct 16, 2018

Call the Mayor! He called back.

Joe Conti | Oct 16, 2018

Yes, SE is best internet in the area. Centurylink only offers about 10 mbps or less which is terrible for gamers like me. Hughes net is satellite internet so unless you just need internet to browse the web it's also useless (no streaming or gaming). Verizon promised the state of NJ that they would provide internet to everyone over 10 years ago! They still aren't even close to completing this but yet the state does nothing to Verizon. Also, Verizon is known to be one of the more expensive providers but at least the service is good.

Priscilla Orr | Oct 16, 2018

I would think this is a monopoly issue legally. Any lawyers out there?

Kathy Malure | Oct 16, 2018

Century link is terrible!! It may be less expensive, but it isn't worth the savings. I'm going to try service electric. Just for internet
