It's an old military base that has been converted a sport complex.. the soul circus, fairs and other outdoor exhibitions would set up there for a few weeks per yr..
Wow, these answers... No, it's not a sports complex. Floyd Bennett Field is a part of Gateway National Recreation Area. Google that right now, and click on the Wikipedia link and then the National Park Service link. When you're done you'll have a good bead on it. What it's there? Well, lots and lots of space. Walking the miles of trails is free, but fishing and archery require permits, available at Ryan Visitors Center, it looks like an old control tower. Get the permits, the Federal cops are no joke. Camping, in tents or RVs, requires reservations, available in the trailers near Hangar B and the campsites and online. Aviator Sports is on site, but not part of the National Park. They have a gym and a reasonable rock wall, but they are really serious about ice rinks. They are also adjacent to a couple of full sized soccer pitches and plenty of space for the Cricket folks. The sports area has a definite European/International feel. Also on site, HARP is huge, also RC cars and RC Planes.
