It is based on traditional okinawan karate for self defense. It is not sport karate to look pretty. We don't do tournaments or full sparring. No one is in competition. No machismo garbage.
Good Question! First, we focus on self defense applications, rather than winning a trophy or seeing who is quickest or strongest in class. We train to respond effectively to unexpected violence. Second, our instructor has over 35 years experience teaching self defense karate to U.S. Embassy Security Personnel, the U.S. Marines, foreign security experts, and people like you. The more you practice the more the Kakushite (practical hidden hand techniques) become apparent. Our instructor teaches you these easy to learn self defense techniques right away. Third, This is a small dojo focused on self defense. Consequently, you get a lot of personalized attention from the instructor and senior students readily help junior students. The cooperative environment is amazing. Fourth, We smile, laugh and have fun in our open welcoming environment. Fifth, You won't just find us without seriously looking. We are in a business office condominium complex rather than a strip mall.
