The Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter is the open admission shelter for York Co, Poquoson, Hampton, and Newport News. We do take in owner surrender animals, but are also the legal holding facility for the stray animals in those areas. That means we are legally obligated to make space for the stray animals so that the owner can reunite with their companion. There are times when we do humane euthanasia for medical reasons, behavior reasons, and very seldom those very tough decisions for space. Please check out our website www.PeninsulaRegionalAnimalShelter.com and view the report with annual comparison of numbers. We are continuing to grow our Foster program providing recovery and training options, and we utilize the other amazing adoption partners in the area, and outside the area, to transfer animals to them. Please call 757-933-8900 and ask to speak with a supervisor if you have any questions or would like to know how you can help make a difference.
