My one dog gets very nervous with fireworks and thunder. So we let her go to a comfort spot: sometimes the bathroom , and sometimes we open a closet and put her bedding in there. But wherever she goes we put a radio near her and play calm music to drown out the sound. Station 101.1 FM works really well for her. Just be careful when opening doors to leave or enter the house because a lot of pets instinct is to run away when they are nervous.

There is prescription meds that can help. Ask your vet about them. There's also the Thunder shirt that can calm them and make them feel secure. Playing calming music and letting them be in a safe spot is also a good idea. Good luck. And also wat h foe them trying to get out...like the other person said they will dart out and get lost because they are so scared.
