For future inquisitors...they will not only check your backpack but you will have to check it in. You are not allowed to bring a backpack, depending on the size, into the arena. Bag checks are free of charge.

Yes but they dont allow outside food and drink
You can go with a backpack but security is very tight. They will check all items in the backpack especially if it's food or beverages it has to be discarded. Hope my answer helps.
