I don't think it's worth a 45 minute drive, unless you plan other things in the area. The entire museum doesn't take more than 45 minutes to an hour to go through, but there are plenty of other things to do while you're already downtown.
I live 50 minutes away, went there with my kids few days ago. I will go there again. It's totally worth it specially if you have kids..

The museum itself is not worth a 45 minute drive. You can be finished with the entire museum (which is really one large room) in 30 mins. There are great places to eat nearby though like Meso Y Maya.
Is there any free parking next to the museum of illusions?
