if you are not sure if it will fit use the online store pickup and let them know at the counter the concern and they will hold the order if it doesnt fit. Typically a 60 and most 65 in will fit in an SUV a max of 55 in a car.
i put in in my jetta with out the box
In a bind, I've removed the TV from a box, put it in my backseat, broken down the box to keep, and slid it behind the tv, and thrown the packing away at the store. As long as you're careful I wouldn't worry about it. Yes, you can also lay it down if need be. Many tv's that have to be ordered also come with free delivery by Geek Squad so thats also an option.
I don't know the size of box but just keep in mind that it has styrofoam around the outer layers of the actual TV in the Box. Yes you can lay down a flat screen TV in your car it wouldn't make a difference just be careful loading and unloading it.
