When turning on alarm, what is the difference between the "stay" and "away" buttons?;

They are for exactly what they sound like. "Stay" is for arming the system when you are in the home, and will not arm motion sensors inside so you are free to walk around. "Away" is for an unoccupied home and will arm the motion sensors.
