Boot camp is tough, however a good tough, you learn life lessons. Your young man will learn self sufficiency, as well as to read other recruits. His division learn each others short comings and strengths as to create a greater team. Actually I should say Siblings, family. There is no contact while in boot camp except via mail. Period.
If you know who his recruiter was, you can contact him. Only a week in they will not know much to pass on to you. After a few more days you could try the commander's office. The Red Cross can help in emergencies only.
