If in bootcamp, first call home is when thay get to great lakes to say that thay made it safe.. then after 3 weeks and 3 weeks after that as well. . If already finished bootcamp and attended PIR( graduation) , and are ready for A- school .. they can call enytime thay are not in school or on watch. They can have there phones after PIR.

I am not sure of the address but the tickets are at the family center and you don't go through any gate.

Probably. Hopefully COVID restrictions don't get in the way of it this year. They've been off and on about mask requirements and what not lately.

A couple days before the graduation

You will need a sponsor to get on base. Movements on RTC are pretty strictly limited.

In the small building near the GL visitor parking. The building is the Visitor Center.

The main exchange is off the NTC base, so is the commissary.

I drove from Chicago, but I'm sure there are hotels close to the base.

We flew in to the midway airport then rented a car and stayed at the Comforr Inn in Gurnee. I highly recommend the Comfort Inn in Gurnee. Don't stay in Waukeegan. The hotels there are not good. Also, if you are going to rent a car, make sure you talk to the car rental place about the iPass option for the tollways.

My son only sent his possession back. You should get his letter any day. It seems like it will take forever but when you get it, joy! I wrote to my son nearly every day. Share the address with everyone It really means alot to hear your name called because you got mail. I hope it's any day now. They only send mail on Sunday from the recruits. You may get several letters. Congratulations on your sailor.

Yes, they send you a letter about 10 days after they get there to let you know the address and the Graduation date. 😊

Valuable in the sense of historic. It really depends on what it is, what it's back story is, and what quality it is if it has a monetary value. All historic pieces. If in good shape, are worth donating to a museum. Just verify if there is a value before hand.
