On a recent visit, I was especially intrigued by the carved wooden figure seen from the road as one approaches the monastery proper. He seems to emerge from a tree! Who is he and who is the sculptor? Amazing work!

The wood carving or the statue is that of Saint Benedict of Nursia, the founder of the Benedictine order, of which Mount Savior is a part. The statue, as I believe and told me, was carved by Brother Dominic who is a Carthusian monk, who is currently residing at the monastery and will be leaving soon as he has completed his studies.

I'm don't know who he is but I was told it was carved by one of the monks.
