Yes, I'm pretty sure it opens at 9:00. I did the Run for the Zoo 5k on Sunday two weeks ago and we were in there at 6:30, but the zoo didn't officially open until 9:00.
When i got there at 9am they were just opening up the stands and concession stands and the exhibits. The gates open up at 9am.
The gates may open at that time but the buildings and concessions aren't open till later. You can still view the animals in their caged areas and walk the zoo
Gates are definitely open by 8:45am which is usually when I get there everyday
