The water tower is one of only a few structures/buildings that survived the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. It's a historic landmark and awesome site between all the surrounding skyscrapers.

The OLD water tower was for the fire department. Now is a tourist visitor center. It is a landmark - good place to meet, find places in relation to where the water tower place is, etc. Main reason for existence now is tourism and the memories.
